Eyes Wide Open

Here I am for you to glimpse for just a moment as you pass on by. I have an obsession with umbrellas, sunflowers, polaroid photos, Audrey Hepburn, anything retro, Threadless tee-shirts, books, moments that take my breath away, rainy days and starlit nights. I believe that a bowl of chicken noodle soup can make just about anything better. I save all ticket stubs and handwritten letters I receive. I keep a journal full of quotes and poems. I love laughing until I cry and my sides hurt. My tattoo reads "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur". I love my grandmother's passive aggressive tendencies. I dye my hair way too much. I worry about my future. I follow and post to blogsecret. Some of the best conversations I have had have taken place between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. I think black and white photography is beautiful. e.e. cummings always inspires me. Sarcasm and wit sustain me. Hope gives me strength. Love gives me life. I am a dreamer. I am a cynic. I am an optimist. I am a realist. I am a contradiction. I have learned one thing: life is perfect...a perfect mess. I don't mind it one bit, though. I hate monotony. I want the unpredictable. I am ready for the challenge.

And though love is a drunk, sleeping off its hangover in the gutters between the years, you need to smile at the bitch anyway.

This is Why You Were Bored as a Teenager

From NurtureShock:

In his new book, Dr. Joe Allen has concluded that our urge to protect teenagers from real life – because we don’t think they’re ready yet – has tragically backfired. By insulating them from adult-like work, adult social relationships, and adult consequences, we have only delayed their development. We have made it harder for them to grow up. Maybe even made it impossible to grow up on time.

Basically, we long ago decided that teens ought to be in school, not in the labor force. Education was their future. But the structure of schools is endlessly repetitive. “From a Martian’s perspective, high schools look virtually the same as sixth grade,” said Allen. “There’s no recognition, in the structure of school, that these are very different people with different capabilities.” Strapped to desks for 13+ years, school becomes both incredibly monotonous, artificial, and cookie-cutter.

So I am kind of excited for tomorrow...

my cousin joined a roller derby league (random, I know) and their first big competition is tomorrow night in Fargo.  This could be entertaining.

IM STAYING UP TONIGHT !

I love college and deciding to skip my only class on Friday. :D  And yay for the staying up, except for the fact that my mother is coming into town tomorrow so I will at some point need to get out of bed at what will seem, to her, like an appropriate time.
